Plant Drive

"Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."  Galatians 6:7

When we consider the opportunities we have in our lifetimes to grow our own food, we would realise how wealthy we are. More trees, more planting and more gardens equate to more produce.

The plant drive is an effort to encourage communities to grow more of their own produce, as well as to encourage nation leaders to promote and encourage the increased practice of planting, gardening and farming.

Create a habit of saving your seeds and planting them in pots which can be moved to permanent residences, businesses or larger properties when they become available.

The Macedonia Project

In the spirit of giving, and like the Macedonian church, the Macedonia Project will invite churches to offer ten percent (10%) of their building or property space(s) to those in need of shelters and temporary homes. This may come in several forms, some of which have been suggested and are being proposed.

Responding to Rising Sea Levels

With sea levels rising and The Bahamas being islands of shallow seas, this is a concern that requires nation leaders to pay significant attention to. There are also actions citizens and residents can take to help these efforts along.

GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION

Extracting water from the ground is a contributor to rising sea levels and assist in causing the ground to sink. (Extracting oil from the ground has similar effects.)

One easy alternative to pumping water from the ground is capturing rainwater for usage. Another alternative is to desalinate seawater, which The Bahamas has much of, but this would likely need to be done at a broader level. Adding to green spaces will also help in reestablishing water ecosystems.

ADJUSTMENTS IN BUILDING STRUCTURES

As development is vibrant and progressive in The Bahamas - construction being the fourth largest industry, any adjustments to the building of our structures would significantly assist the effort of preventing land-sinking, due to the rising seas.

Developers should be intentional about building foundations several feet above sea level, in anticipation of this rise. This would ensure that buildings rise along with or ahead of the sea levels. Structures may also be built on stilts in anticipation of same.

Finally, water tanks should become a part of every building project, to ensure rainwater can be collected and stored in large quantities for future use.
